Crochet cotton belt and jersey skirt

Afternoon project.

Hi to all, sorry for not being around with new patterns every day. Was very busy at work and some orders, and  new projects. So I decided to share one of my projects I managed to do in one afternoon :). Hope you like it.

Beautiful but simple crochet belt to accessorise your  skirt or dress, or make a boring top stand out..

All I used was some jersey fabric and elastic band. I used one of my pencil skirts for pattern, and cut 2 pieces for this skirt. With elastic at the top and just 2 sides to sew together, makes this skirt a very quick project :)

Crochet cotton belt:

Materials:
Patons mercerised  100% cotton
Hook 3mm
scissors

Stitches used:
Sc - single crochet
Dc - double crochet
Ch - chain
Sl st - slip stitch

Starting with ch 106, dc in the 6th ch from hook, ch 1,skip one,dc in 2nd ch, and so on until you have 51 arches.
Working on the opposite side:
Ch 5 sc  in the 3rd arch ch 5 sc in the 2 nd arch ( means you have a sc in the ch from previous rnd, then u skip 3 sts and have next sc in the 4th st(ch) from the last sc) continue all the way around the belt, you should finish your round at the first ch of 5 , sl st in the first arch and ch 3, ch 1, dc, ch1 repeat 5 more times, sc in the next arch, dc in the next arch, ch 1 repeat 6 more times in the same arch, sc in the next arch  and continue like that all around you should have 36 arches made of dc and ch, 17 on each side of the belt and 1 on each end of the belt.
When you reach the end of this round, you will have to sc in the last arch and the sl st in the 3ch, which was your first dc form this round.

Sl st in the first little arch, ch 3 ,sc in the next arch , repeat 4 more times,

your last single crochet is in the last arch, next sc in the 3rd st from hook,( you skip 1 dc ,1sc, 1 dc,)and its the first arch for the next frilly bit of the belt, and again, you ch 3 and sc until you have 5 arches on top of each frilly bit.
Continue until you made this  frilly edge for all 36 frilly arches, fasten off at the end.

For strings:
I used the middle arches from the both ends of the belt, sl st in the first and ch 45, fastened off, and made 3 strings total on one end and 3 on the other end.
To make belt even more stand out I would suggest to stiffen it.
You can by fabric stiffeners in most big supermarkets. I use good old fashion way with potato starch. It is very messy, but very cheap and certainly very organic ;)
Hope you enjoyed this quick afternoon project. It should take few hrs to finish and by the end of the day, you ill have gorgeous skirt with stunning crochet belt.

Enjoy:)
